FRACTALS PROJECT
“is a series of photographic portraits taken in
Santa Cruz del Islote, known as the most densely
populated island in the world”.
Over more than ten years, the project captured the essence of its inhabitants through a unique approach: the people posed next to previous images of themselves, creating a fractal effect that symbolizes their personal and collective evolution.
At the time, the community was facing extremely challenging living conditions, lacking light, electricity, internet and drinking water. However, what is most striking about this is not its scarcity of resources, but the extraordinary happiness and resilience of its people.
The project not only sought to document, but also to actively collaborate with the inhabitants of the islet.
Through this initiative, clothes were donated, medicines and water tanks, vital resources to alleviate some of the community's daily difficulties.
In addition to the portraits, workshops were organized to raise awareness of waste treatment, one of the most important awareness about waste treatment, one of the island's main environmental challenges.
These educational activities sought to inspire sustainable practices in an environment where natural resources are limited.
“Fractals Project” culminated in a photographic exhibition that brought the stories and faces of the islet to the outside world, showing a reality full of contrasts: adversity versus joy, and scarcity versus emotional abundance.
This project is not only a visual record, but also a tribute to a community that, despite the difficulties, radiates happiness and humanity.
