ECOS DEL PALENQUE
“It was a transformative experience to enter this fascinating COMMUNITY, recognized as the first free town in America,
and immerse myself in the richness of its Afro-Colombian tradition”.
I had the privilege of traveling to San Basilio de Palenque, Colombia, a community steeped in history, culture, and a unique energy that captivated me from the first moment. It was a transformative experience to enter this fascinating place, recognized as the first free town in America, and immerse myself in the richness of its Afro-Colombian tradition.
During my stay, I was fortunate to record various local musicians who master traditional drums. The music that emerges from these drums is a bridge between the past and the present, a direct connection with their ancestral roots. With this inspiration, “Ecos del Palenque” was born.
In this project, I managed to fuse the traditional sounds of palenquero drums with modern elements, such as synthesizers and drum machines. This dialogue between the ancestral and the contemporary allowed me to explore new creative dimensions and pay homage to the cultural legacy of the African diaspora, taking it to new sonic frontiers.
